Texas singer-songwriter Tanner Usrey, 32, was arrested on March 30th in Collin County, Texas, facing three charges including Driving While Intoxicated — a second offense — and two felony drug possession counts, according to Collin County jail records.

The DWI second offense carries heightened penalties under Texas law. Per Collin County PD records, the official drug-related charges were “POSS CS PG 1/1-B >=4G<200G” and “POSS CS PG 2 >= 4G<400G.”

The two drug possession charges fall under Penalty Groups 1/1-B and 2, both felony-level offenses. The 1/1-B classification was established in response to the surge in fentanyl-related overdose deaths across the state, and covers substances containing fentanyl or fentanyl analogues. The quantities listed in the charges, between 4 and 200 grams for the first, and 4 to 400 grams for the second — place both in serious felony territory.

All three charges were filed “on view,” meaning law enforcement made the arrest without a pre-existing warrant. Collin County Magistrate Lisa Bronchett presided over an initial hearing the same day, setting bond conditions and ordering an ignition interlock device on Usrey’s vehicle. He has since posted bond and been released. A court date has not yet been publicly announced.

Tanner Usrey has built a sturdy following in the Texas and regional country music circuit, drawing on Southern and classic rock influences. A native of Aubrey, TX, just north of Dallas, he’s released two albums with Atlantic records since 2023.

Thus-far, Usrey still has multiple upcoming appearances remain on his touring schedule, including the Montgomery County Fair in Conroe on April 11th, Fiesta Oyster Bake in San Antonio on April 17th, and Larry Joe Taylor’s Texas Music Festival on April 23rd. It is not yet known whether those shows will proceed as planned.

This is a developing story; stay tuned here for updates as events warrant.
