This afternoon, Dan + Shay have officially signaled their return, sharing a handwritten note to fans announcing new music on the way, and putting to rest any speculation about their status as a group.
Posted to their social media accounts, the message comes after a period of relative quiet from the pair. In it, they emphasize both their renewed creative energy and the strength of their friendship, while teasing the release of a new single titled “Say So.”
The full statement reads:
“Hi,
As you know, we’ve been quiet for a while, and we just wanted to start by saying thank you so much for being patient with us. No, we didn’t almost break up again lol. In fact, our friendship is stronger than ever, and we’re really proud of that. Over the past year, we have gotten to spend more time in the studio together than we have since we made the Where It All Began album in 2013, and that has been so life-giving.
Even though we’ve missed seeing everyone on the road (that changes soon—stay tuned), and keeping up with you on socials, we’ve had what we feel is the most inspired burst of creativity in our entire career, and we wanted to capture every bit of it. Sounds cliché for an artist to say, but these songs really are more personal and honest than anything we have ever done before. Because the music means so much to us, we have held it close and obsessed over every detail, but now we are ready to start sharing it with the world.
We’re beyond excited to announce that the first single, ‘Say So,’ will be yours this Thursday at 11 PM CT.
This song is a true story about a friend who we lost not long ago, and we hope it offers strength and encouragement to anyone going through a tough time. The subject matter is heavy, it is serious, it is timely, and it is something we feel is important to talk about. We also worked hard to create our most powerful music video yet, and it will be released at the same time. It would mean a whole lot to us if you took a few minutes to check it out.
So much more to say about ‘Say So’ and the rest of the new music soon, but again, thank you for always being in our corner. We get to do something we love because of you, and we’ll forever be grateful. This is officially the start of the next chapter, and we truly believe it will be the best.
Say So. Thursday, 11 PM CT. Here we go.
Much love,
Dan + Shay”
Thus-far, no details have been shared about a potential full-length LP, aside from the upcoming single.
