Sturgill Simpson, performing under his Johnny Blue Skies & the Dark Clouds moniker, has announced the “Mutiny for the Masses” tour in support of the character’s second album, Mutiny After Midnight.
The album was released on March 13th, initially as a physical-only project available on vinyl, CD and cassette. However, as of today, the album can be purchased digitally on iTunes.
• Presales start at 10am local time on Wednesday, April 8th.
• General on-sale begins at 10am local time on Friday, April 10th.
In a lengthy post ahead of the album’s release, Simpson emphasized the deep kinship within the band; drummer and backing vocalist Miles Miller, lead guitarist Laur Joamets, bassist Kevin Black and keyboardist/saxophonist Robbie Crowell—many of whom have toured together for more than 13 years. This group is expected to be the touring band for “Mutiny for the Masses“ as well.
The tour announcement arrived via a stylized poster depicting a weathered document with an ashtray, lit cigarette, lighter and trademark sword motif, and handwritten “2026 Tour” notation. It is scheduled to begin in early September and run through late October, with shows in arenas and theaters. Consistent with prior statements from the project, performances will feature no opening act, allowing the band to use the full allotted stage time.
