Cody Johnson has announced a new single, “Take Me Back (Leave Me There),” due this Friday, sharing a voice memo preview of the track on Instagram. The song is the latest piece of new music from Johnson ahead of his tenth studio album, Banks of the Trinity, due June 26 via Warner Music Nashville.

The clip offers a departure in tone from much of Johnson’s catalog — a swaying, understated pop-country ballad that draws an easy comparison to Chris Stapleton’s “You Should Probably Leave” in its groovy guitar-led sound.

“You don’t have to make promises,” Johnson sings. “You don’t have to take back that goodbye that you said. You can move on like a southbound train, but just leave me that memory of us. Take me back and leave me there, blue jeans hanging off of your bedroom chair, sun coming through the blinds, wind coming through your hair. Take me back and leave me there.”

The announcement adds to a busy stretch for Johnson. He released lead single “I Want You” earlier this month alongside the Banks of the Trinity album announcement, and has since followed it with “Hello Lonesome” and “Fools Gold” in quick succession. To top it all off, he took home the ACM Entertainer of the Year trophy earlier this year, a huge achievement for any country artist, but an especially remarkable honor for an artist who cut his teeth outside of Nashville for so long.

He is currently on the “Cody Johnson Live ’26” tour, a run of more than 30 arena dates, and is slated to appear at CMA Fest in Nashville in June. Banks of the Trinity is his first studio album since Leather, which won CMA Album of the Year in 2024.

“Take Me Back (Leave Me There)” is out this Friday.
