Zach Bryan has given fans a firm date for his next project. Speaking from the stage in Toronto, the Oklahoma singer-songwriter announced that his forthcoming EP will arrive October 16th and confirmed that the unreleased song “Backwards” will appear on it.
The date closes the loop on a rollout that’s been running since early summer. Bryan first revealed the project, tentatively titled Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs, on July 3rd, when he uploaded acoustic snippets of two unreleased songs, “Lodi When” and “Better Friends,” to YouTube. The EP’s name appeared only in the captions of those videos, both of which were later deleted.
“Backwards” is the first track formally confirmed for the tracklist beyond those initial two. Bryan debuted it in the same stripped-down style as the others, performing alone with a guitar, and it joins a growing pile of loose material fans have been cataloging all year. “Breakfast in Bed,” “Pocket Change,” “You’ll Get By,” and “You and I” have all surfaced in one form or another, though none have been officially tied to the project.
The approach is familiar territory for Bryan, whose post-album EPs have developed a following of their own. Summertime Blues followed American Heartbreak in 2022, and the folk-leaning Boys of Faith arrived just weeks after his self-titled record in 2023. Both have held up as favorites in a catalog where the smaller releases often carry almost as much weight as the major ones.
Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs follows With Heaven On Top, his sixth studio album, released this past January. The timing puts the EP less than a week after his With Heaven On Tour wraps October 10th in Auburn, Alabama.
