In a surprising twist last Friday, Post Malone and Blake Shelton made an appearance at CMA Fest in Nashville, Tennessee to perform a brand new song. Fans had heard a snippet of this tune on social media, but like when Post took the stage with Morgan Wallen, fans knew when he brought Blake out to duet, an official release wasn’t far away. Now, the pair have formally announced that their upcoming collaboration, “Pour Me a Drink,” is set to be released next Friday, June 21st. This new track marks Posty’s second official country song, following his monumental single “I Had Some Help” alongside country music’s biggest star of the moment.
Blake Shelton, known for his long-standing career in country music and his role as a coach on NBC’s “The Voice,” brings his deep, resonant vocals and country bonafides to the collaboration, which definitely favors his brand of traditionally-minded bro-country. Together, Shelton and Post Malone create a fresh duet that sounds tailor-made for country radio this summer.
The collaboration with Blake comes after the breakout hit “I Had Some Help” was released, which sees Post Malone collaborate with Morgan Wallen over a pop-adjacent production that’s not only done well at radio stations, but has garnered over 250 million streams across platforms. At the time of writing, it’s one of the biggest songs in the world, charting at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks.
Blake Shelton has stayed fairly out of the spotlight over the last few years, having waited over three years since his last full LP. In sharp contrast, Post Malone is less than a year removed from his most recent pop effort AUSTIN, but already seems fully invested in his new country direction, with a collaboration with Luke Combs also on the way.
The genre-agnostic superstar is no stranger to country music at all. In the past, he’s released covers of songs from Sturgill Simpson and Brad Paisly, as well as performed at the CMA Awards alongside Wallen and Hardy for HIXTAPE VOL. 3: DIFFTAPE. He’s been welcomed into the country world by some of the genre’s biggest stars, and with a by-proxy co-sign by Shelton thanks to “Pour Me a Drink,” it looks like the “Circles” singer won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
“Pour Me a Drink” will be available everywhere on Friday, June 21st.
