Brandon Flowers, frontman of The Killers, has announced THRASHER, a country-western solo album due out August 21st. It is his first solo effort since 2015’s The Desired Effect, and his first offical foray into country music.
Recorded at the historic RCA Studio A in Nashville with producers Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado, Thrasher features a number of the city’s most renowned session players, including guitarist David Rawlings, pedal steel player Bruce Bouton, and 85-year-old harmonica legend Charlie McCoy, whose work appears on Bob Dylan’s classic Nashville recordings.
In a statement on Instagram, Flowers said: “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found my way back to my father’s music; ‘Country-Western’ (as he called it) and discovered that the stories I carry really feel most at home in the skin of this beautiful American tradition.”
Rooted in Flowers’ formative years growing up in the small town of Nephi, Utah, much of the album features songs written in persona that draw from stories about his friends and family across different periods of his life.
The lead single, “Plans,” arrives Friday, June 26th. Flowers is set to perform at the Newport Folk Festival in July and Austin City Limits in October.
