Sam Hunt has announced a new four-track EP, Locked Up, will be released on April 7th. The artist, known for hits like “Body Like a Back Road” and “Kinfolks,” announced the project on Instagram following the release of the title track on Friday.
While there’s no sign that this EP could lead to a full-length album shortly, it marks Hunt’s first project since the release of his sophomore album, SOUTHSIDE, in 2020. Since that album came out, Hunt has released numerous singles to varying success, with some taking over the charts on country radio. With Locked Up, only one previously released single will be included besides the title track: “Outskirts.”
The song ”Locked Up” details his wife’s dedication to the Georgia native despite his many mistakes. In the video, Hunt and his wife portray a version of Johnny and June Cash, playing out scenes that are visually ripped from the 1960s. We’ll have to wait until April 7th to find out what the other two tracks—“Country House” and “Last Hurrah”—will cover lyrically.
Hunt is enjoying 2024 touring nationwide on the Outskirts Tour with Brett Young and Lily Rose. His website has a full list of dates and ticket information.
