Following the major success of his hit song, “Rich Men North of Richmond” Oliver Anthony has grown to his overnight sensation debuting at the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Recently, Anthony went on the “The Joe Rogan Experience” to talk about the success of the song and various other topics.
“I’ve seen songs go viral, but that’s pretty bananas son. Your sh*t went to the moon and right away” Rogan quipped.
Anthony’s instant success has garnered a lot of attention from various media outlets as far as being discussed in a question during the first GOP Primary Debate. Anthony goes as far to say he wasn’t expecting this song to be the one that grew his reputation. He’s written other anthem songs before but didn’t anticipate any of this reaction let alone the size of attention.
The two go on to discuss how a lot of people are resonating with the song, especially in this current socio-political climate. Rogan goes on to compare Anthony’s presence in the song to Janis Joplin’s ‘Piece of My Heart’ and the authenticity behind her as a singer and the songs that she puts out. “This is one of those songs that every time I hear it, it just takes me in my mind to what it must’ve been like to be alive in 1968” Rogan said.
Anthony is not the first superstar country singer to appear on Rogan’s podcast. In August, Zach Bryan made his debut on the podcast. Luke Combs has also been known to appear a few times in the past as he’s promoting various tours or albums. Rogan has also made comments that he hopes to get guys like Colter Wall on the podcast but is yet to make that happen. Jelly Roll also made an appearance in May as his career was beginning to take off with lots of momentum.
His smash hit “Rich Men North of Richmond” currently has 49 million views on the ‘radiowv’ YouTube channel as of August 30th and sits at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
