Kacey Musgraves will release “Middle of Nowhere,” the title track from her upcoming seventh studio album, this Friday, April 17th. The announcement came earlier this week when Musgraves shared a snippet of the song on social media while traveling to Coachella. The full album arrives May 1st via the newly minted Lost Highway Records.

Kacey has been teasing this song for quite some time, most recently sharing its hook while on a sunset drive to Coachella. As far as we’ve heard, the song rambles along with an apathetic, carefree feel, which is reflected in its chorus:

Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, I think maybe I’ll just stay there / Don’t tell me you miss me, I don’t care / I’m somewhere in the middle of nowhere

The album’s title was inspired by a roadside sign in Musgraves’ hometown of Golden, Texas, which reads “Golden, TX: Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere.” Musgraves co-wrote all 13 tracks alongside producers Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk. The record features guest appearances from Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings, and Gregory Alan Isakov.

Reportedly, the album draws on pedal steel, accordion, and Texas dancehall rhythms, with additional, more eclectic influences from bluegrass, Norteño, and zydeco. The lead single “Dry Spell” was released March 11th, and immediately caught on in both country and pop circles alike.. “Middle of Nowhere” will be the second song released from the project ahead of the full album drop.

“Middle of Nowhere” (the song) will be out everywhere this Friday; Middle of Nowhere (the album) is out May 1th
