Veteran country artist Jamey Johnson will release “Smoke,” a new single featuring Riley Green, this Friday, November 1st. The announcement came via Johnson’s social media channels Tuesday evening, accompanied by stark black-and-white artwork depicting an old truck skidding through the dirt.

The pairing is not without precedent. In 2022, Green joined Johnson onstage during the latter’s What a View tour for a rendition of Johnson’s “I Don’t Smoke,” a deep cut from 2006’s The Dollar. Riley Green has also covered Jamey Johnson’s singular smash hit “In Color” numerous times.

Industry observers note the title “Smoke” may nod to Johnson’s catalog of vice-themed narratives, including “High Cost of Living” and “Can’t Cash My Checks.” No confirmation has been given on whether the single previews a larger project.

“Smoke” will be out everywhere this Friday.
