Hudson Westbrook has announced a new single, “Backwards,” set for release on April 24th, according to an Instagram post he shared this afternoon.
The teaser features a close-up visual of a cigarette and lighter alongside a lyric excerpt from the track: “You left me high up in / Where rock bottom is / I never knew your silence could say so much.” Westbrook accompanied the post with a brief caption noting the song holds personal significance, writing that “this one means a lot to me.”
The announcement follows a busy stretch of releases for the Texas country artist. His March single “Hey Dallas” signaled a return to the regional, Texas-rooted sound of his debut LP Texas Forever after his January EP Exclusive leaned into a poppier country-R&B direction. “Backwards” appears to continue that homecoming trajectory, with its forlorn lyricism suggesting Westbrook is pushing further into personal territory.
“Backwards” will be out everywhere on April 24th.
