Hailey Whitters has announced her newest album, Corn Queen, will be available on June 6th. Released via Big Loud Records, the second single, “High on a Heartbreak,” is out now.
She’ll be joined by Charles Wesley Godwin, Molly Tuttle, and The Wilder Blue on various collaborations. Recorded by her now husband, Jake Gear, the project reflects on her Midwest roots and everything that comes with growing up in a small town. The lyrics on this album will be full of smart and clever wordplay with unique storytelling and memorable performances. Blending elements of bluegrass, classic, and contemporary country, this album is the next step in her career.
“Fans started calling me the ‘Corn Queen’ because I’m from Iowa,” Whitters explains. “At first, it seemed kind of silly, but the more I thought about it, the more I loved its duality. Corn is this simple, humble crop, and ‘queen’ implies royalty passed down through blood. I come from a long line of blue-collar farmers and construction workers. I’ve been out here for over a decade, brushing my teeth in truck stop bathrooms, sleeping on hotel floors, and driving myself from gig to gig. It’s not glamorous, but I’m proud of it. I like the idea of a queen with a little grit and elbow grease.”
She has announced limited tour dates for the year so far, many festival dates. She’ll appear at Morgan Wallen’s “Sand in my Boots” festival and at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa. Tickets can be purchased through her website at this time.
