This evening, Drake surprised fans at one of his recent DJ sets with a snippet of an unreleased remix of Ella Langley’s hit “Choosin’ Texas,” which features the hip-hop superstar singing the song’s viral hook.
Drake has spent the past several months publicly co-signing Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” culminating in an August 22nd appearance at her concert in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
Earlier this summer, Drake also played “Choosin’ Texas” during a nightclub DJ set in Houston. He had previously praised Langley’s songwriting online.
Langley has reciprocated the attention, sharing a clip of herself lip-syncing to Drake’s 2011 Lil Wayne collaboration “HYFR.”
The interactions come during a chart run of historic scale for “Choosin’ Texas.” The single has spent 19 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, tying the second-longest leading run in the chart’s history, alongside Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.” Drake briefly interrupted the song’s run at No. 1 with “Janice STFU” before it reclaimed the top spot.
The two artists nearly collided on the chart in another way: during the week Drake’s ICEMAN rollout broke Morgan Wallen’s record for most simultaneous Hot 100 entries by one artist, “Choosin’ Texas” was the only non-Drake song to hold a spot in the top ten.
