Cody Johnson will release his cover of “Travelin’ Soldier” on all streaming platforms this Friday, November 7th. The release follows significant fan demand for the track, which gained traction after Johnson’s acoustic performance was uploaded to YouTube in March 2022, amassing over 58 million views.
Written by Bruce Robison and popularized by the Dixie Chicks in 2002, “Travelin’ Soldier” topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Johnson’s rendition, marked by his distinctive baritone and acoustic arrangement, has resonated with fans for some time now. Johnson confirmed the news via social media in a short video captioned “Friday.”
The release follows a challenging period for Johnson, who recently canceled his remaining 2025 performances due to a ruptured eardrum requiring immediate surgery. The injury occurred while he was battling a severe respiratory and sinus infection. Recovery is expected to take several weeks, but Johnson remains optimistic, stating, “I pray for full healing so I can get well and return to doing what I love. Thank you, COJO Nation, for the love and support now, and always.”
Looking ahead, Johnson has announced new tour dates for 2026, running from February to July, with tickets going on sale this Friday, November 7, at 10 a.m. local time. The schedule includes stops in Birmingham, AL (February 6–7), Champaign, IL (February 13), Louisville, KY (February 14), and other cities, culminating in Columbus, OH (July 17–18).
“Travelin’ Solder” will be out everywhere this Friday.
