Charles Wesley Godwin has announced his new album, Christian Name, due July 24th, and his second via Big Loud Records. Alongside the announcement, Godwin releases the lead single “Better That Way” featuring Luke Combs. The album also includes “Hey There, Son” featuring Wyatt Flores.
Christian Name is Godwin’s most personal work to date. In 2024, Godwin and his wife Samantha suffered the stillbirth of their third child, Samuel. Godwin has spoken openly about the months it took to return to writing, and about how the experience ultimately deepened rather than diminished his faith. The album title and cover art draw directly from his late grandfather, Charles Godwin, a Methodist preacher.
“Coming out of that, I recommitted to my faith in God more so than I have at any point in my life. It really changed me. The point of this project was to point to God, and let people know he’s really helped me through this time in my life,” Charles shared in a press release.
The 13-track album was produced by Godwin’s longtime collaborator and Alleghany High bandmate Al Torrence, recorded primarily at Torrence’s Music Garden Studios in Pennsylvania alongside sessions in Nashville and New York City. The record features contributions from some of Nashville’s most respected songwriters, including Liz Rose, Lori McKenna, Travis Meadows, Stephen Wilson Jr., and Scooter Carusoe, among others.
On the touring front, Godwin will co-headline a run of dates with Dylan Gossett this summer before joining Kacey Musgraves on her Middle of Nowhere Tour this fall. Additional tour dates are expected to be announced.
