Charles Wesley Godwin Teases New Song “Hey There Son” With Wyatt Flores

This evening, Charles Wesley Godwin unveiled a new song, “Hey There Son,” a collaboration with Wyatt Flores, set to be released this Friday, June 12th. This past Thursday, Godwin teased the song at Country Central’s CMA Fest writers’ round, and shared some background on its genesis nearly seven years ago:

“I started this song two weeks after my first born son was born December 2019 and I think it was Lori McKenna’s ‘When You’re My Age’ that just had a hold of me at that time, I just thought it was one of the best songs ever and I thought this should be a great song to write with Lori someday. And if anybody knew anything about me in 2019, there’s no reason to believe that I would actually get a room to write with Lori McKenna at that point in my life. But I held on to that song and five years later I had the opportunity to write with her, and I don’t think I told her that day that I had that in the pocket for all those years.

But anyways, I knew exactly what I was gonna pull out that day and I said I got this song called ‘Hey There Son’ and we finished it that day and it turned out beautifully. We recorded it last year, Wyatt sang on it in December and we got the masters on it in February.”

“Hey There Son” will be out everywhere this Friday; Charles’s album Christian Name will be released on July 24th.
