This morning, Charles Wesley Godwin shared via a press release that he will launch The Christian Name Tour on July 11th in Fargo, ND, in support of his forthcoming album of the same name, due out July 24th. The tour runs through November 14th and comprises more than 40 dates across the U.S. and Canada. Openers have not yet been announced.
A portion of the summer dates are co-headlined with Dylan Gossett. In the fall, Godwin will open for Kacey Musgraves on her Middle of Nowhere tour, including arena stops in Kansas City and Atlanta.
Christian Name was produced by Al Torrence, Godwin’s Alleghany High bandmate, and recorded primarily at Torrence’s Music Garden Studios in Pennsylvania, with additional sessions in Nashville and New York City. The two have collaborated for roughly a decade.
“These songs really meant a lot to me,” Godwin explains. “There’s parts of me and parts of the things that I’ve gone through in the last couple years that are in each and every song on this album.”
The album’s title and cover art reference Godwin’s late grandfather, Charles Godwin, a Methodist preacher. Godwin co-wrote songs on the record with Liz Rose, Lori McKenna, Travis Meadows, Stephen Wilson Jr., Aaron Ratiere, Scooter Carusoe, and Tom Douglas. Luke Combs appears on “Better That Way” and Wyatt Flores on “Hey There, Son.”
