Megan Moroney has announced that her new single, “You Had To Be There” (feat. Kenny Chesney), will be released on May 9th.
In the social media announcement, Moroney featured a Ticketmaster screenshot of her attending a Kenny Chesney concert in 2018, hinting at some sentiment behind the song.
Moroney went on tour with Kenny Chesney during the summer of 2024 as part of the “Sun Goes Down” tour, a co-headlining event between Chesney and the Zac Brown Band.
Beginning Memorial Day weekend, he’ll begin a 12-show residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, making it the first of its kind for any country artist. In a recent press release from the announcement, Kenny shared some background on this event. “When we started talking, I flew to Vegas with my key tour team. We stood on the floor as they ran the film of U2’s show, and we were completely consumed. We could see the band, but it was so much more than that. It almost multiplied what they were doing by another dimension.”
One of the biggest women in the genre right now, Megan Moroney, has been at the top of her game since her sophomore album, Am I Okay, was released in 2024. Born and raised in Georgia, there have been plenty of references to her southern upbringing since “Tennessee Orange” went viral on TikTok in the summer of 2022. Featured on the Twisters soundtrack, her song “Never Left Me” was one of the few to be featured in the movie rather than just the soundtrack.
“You Had To Be There” (feat. Kenny Chesney), will be out everywhere on May 9th.
