Luke Combs, Tracy Chapman To Perform “Fast Car” At Grammys

Fast Car

Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman will be performing a duet of “Fast Car” together at the Grammys on Sunday night according to Variety.

After teasing it on Youtube for almost three years, Combs’ finally released a mastered version on his 2023 album Gettin’ Old. Since its release the song has been a huge hit for Combs and given a new life to Chapman’s 1988 track. This appearance holds a lot of significance as this will be only her third performance in front of cameras since she retired from touring in 2009.

Representatives at the recording academy were not available for comment according to Variety

Originally released in 1988 peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and wasn’t necessarily an accurate representation of the cultural phenomenon it was. Combs’ released the song as a single and reached No. 1 on the Billboard’s Radio Songs chart for four weeks, making it to No. 1 on the adult pop and country formats for two weeks each. The song peaked at No. 6 on the Top 40 radio chart and No. 2 on the Hot 100.

When Chapman won single of the year at the CMA’s in 2023, she was very appreciative of the award in her speech but otherwise has not made many public comments about the recent success.

“It’s truly an honor for my song to be newly recognized after 35 years of its debut. Thank you to the CMAs and a special thanks to Luke and all of the fans of ‘Fast Car’” she said in a statement after the CMA’s.
