At a pre-Grammy event hosted by Billboard, Lana Del Rey announced her upcoming September project, Lasso will be a country album.
”If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. We’re going country. It’s happening,” she said last night. “That’s why Jack [Antonoff] has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”
She made the announcement while commemorating her long-time producer and collaborator Jack Antonoff. Lasso will be the pair’s fourth album together in nearly three-and-a-half years. Antonoff, known for working with the likes of Taylor Swift, The Chicks, and Lorde, is up for producer of the year once again and is looking for his third consecutive win. It would make him the second producer ever to achieve the feat.
It was also confirmed that she’d be working with Luke Laird on the project. Laird is best known for working with Kacey Musgraves and Eric Church.
She released a cover of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” in December and performed a cover of Tammy Wynette’s hit “Stand By Your Man” in September 2023.
Lana is currently nominated for Album of the Year, Best Alternative Music Album, Song of the Year Best Alternative Music Performance, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance following her collaboration with Jon Batiste, “Candy Necklace.”
This will be the iconic pop star’s 10th studio LP following her latest release, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, which earned her five Grammy nominations this year. The March 2023 release peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.
