Kashus Culpepper has announced that his second single, “Who Hurt You,” will be released this Friday, July 19th. The song was announced on his Instagram account, along with a few photos indicating an accompanying music video is on the way.
“This song means so much to me,” Culpepper said in the announcement. “It was one of the first original songs I put up on socials. And i wasn’t expecting it to do what it did. Me and [Mark Addison Chandler] the day we wrote it just wanted to get some things off of our chest, and we just put a melody behind.
“So thank yall for helping me realize we all go thru things, and there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. From the comments, messages, and singing it with me at my shows has really made this ole bama boy happy. Love yall, and can’t wait for yall to hear the full version.”
Thanks to TikTok, Culpepper burst onto the music scene, where his covers of popular songs and snippets of original tracks have garnered millions of views. His first videos teasing “Who Hurt You,” shared late last year, have been viewed nearly 2.5 million times. Culpepper’s unique writing ability and soulful, grave voice make him a standout among the mainstream and an exceptional member of Big Loud’s lineup, the label at which he’s called home since last month. He performed at CMA Fest last month on the Country Central stage, as well as Spotify’s Artists To Watch Stage.
“Who Hurt You” follows “Afer Me?”, the first song Kashus Culpepper has ever released to streaming services, making just two original songs in the artist’s official discography. “After Me?” has been streamed over 600,000 times on Spotify alone, and if the widespread excitement across his social media pages is any indication, “Who Hurt You” could share some of that impressive early success.
