Texas country superstar Cody Johnson has announced a new duet with Carrie Underwood called “I’m Gonna Love You,” set for release on September 27th. Johnson revealed details about the collaboration during an interview back in June 2023 with Nashville’s Big 98 radio station, but since then, there hasn’t been much buzz around this collaboration until now.
“I’ve loved Carrie’s music,” Johnson shared during the interview. “When I heard this song and her voice, I just knew that it was going to work out,” he explained. Johnson described the experience as “family harmony,” comparing it to the way he grew up singing with his mother. “It just instantly fits and meshes,” he remarked, clearly impressed with how their voices blended.
What makes this duet particularly intriguing is the contrast in their vocal styles. Johnson noted, “My voice and her voice are really drastically different. But put together, they make a very unique sound.” This unexpected combination of his traditional country grit and Underwood’s dynamic, powerful vocals has the potential to create a standout moment in country music this year.
CoJo, known for his traditional Texas country style and recent radio smashes, has been on a steady rise, earning awards, most recently on the strength of his album Leather. Meanwhile, Underwood, one of country music’s most iconic voices, has taken a backseat to recording music as of late, focusing more on her “REFLECTION” residency in Las Vegas. “I’m Gonna Love You” will mark her first new song in more than two years.
“I’m Gonna Love You” will be available everywhere on September 27th.
