Charley Crockett took to his social media to announce that his new album, Lonesome Drifter, will be released on Friday, March 14th. The album’s title track will be available this Friday, January 31st.
The album was produced by Crockett and Shooter Jennings. “Shooter and I barely talked about it,” says Charley. “I just brought all of my guys out, and the album made itself. It was live without a lot of overdubs. There were no inhibitions. I wasn’t being judged, and I didn’t feel self-conscious. Shooter knew how to cut loose and let this thing unfold.”
Lonesome Drifter will mark the “$10 Cowboy’s” 15th studio album and his third since April 2024. Throughout his career, his music has paid tribute to his Texas roots while also being inspired by blues, as he incorporates many horns to create a soulful sound. Crockett has always had a cult following, but he has started to expand his audience as he was nominated for Best Americana Album at the Grammy Awards.
“I’m writing to say thank you for keeping up with me over the years. It’s a short story that keeps getting longer. I’m releasing my debut album with Island Records in March. I wanted you to be the first to know. It’s album #15 if we’re keeping score. I fell into this troubadour life, looking for a way to live on my own terms” Crockett wrote in a letter to fans on his mailing list. “I didn’t like the idea of being fenced in, sold off, or played out. That’s why I started riding trains in the first place. Some say time is money. I say time is a train, and I’m running alongside of it on the only highway. It’s my great pleasure to introduce to you The Lonesome Drifter.“
Crockett has one of the best live sets in country music. He is gearing up to play the Houston Rodeo on March 17th, just three days after the release of his album. The Houston Rodeo is an iconic scene with a lot of history, and artists like George Strait and Elvis Presley have played in it, making it a milestone performance for the 40-year-old. Crockett will also be on the road throughout the year, playing a few shows with Tyler Childers and Leon Bridges.
Lonesome Drifter will be available everywhere on March 14th, and the title track will be released this Friday, January 31st.
