Acclaimed pop artist Chappell Roan has announced the release of her forthcoming single, “The Giver” on March 13th. In a detailed statement shared via Instagram, the singer-songwriter expressed her enthusiasm for the project, which represents her first exploration into the country music genre.

Roan collaborated with red-hot Dan Nigro, known for his work on Rise And Fall of a Midwest Princess, as well as Olivia Rodrigo’s two LPs. Describing the songwriting process as highly enjoyable, Roan noted that “The Giver” diverges from her usual work, but looks to be no less inspired, “We’ve never done a country song, and I have such a special place in my heart for country music.  I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores, and karaoke bars.”

Chappell has teased the song in her recent live performances, including at a stop on Saturday Night Live, sparking intrigue as to where he next project will take her sonically, “many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is… hmm right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun, and The Giver is my take on cuntry xoxo, may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y’all.”

As country music remains at the epicenter of the cultural zeitgeist, it’s more common than ever to see the format receive love from pop’s biggest mainstays, from Sabrina Carpenter, to Beyonce, and now to Chappell Roan.

The Giver” will be out everywhere on March 13th.
