Why CMA Fest Is Worth The Trip

Here in Nashville, it’s widely understood that Music City has become one of America’s premier travel destinations, drawing birthday trips, bachelorette parties, spring break crowds, and devoted country music fans alike. For listeners especially, the city carries a distinct resonance, a place where decades of genre-defining records were written, recorded, and performed, and where opportunity still hums on every stage from Broadway to the publishing rooms off Music Row. It serves not only as a playground for visitors but as a creative home base for artists, songwriters, and industry professionals who rely on its infrastructure and audience.

Yet for all the reasons Nashville remains busy year-round, there is one stretch of the calendar when the city operates at a different magnitude altogether, and that is the week of CMA Fest, when Music City transforms from a popular destination into the undisputed center of the country music world and the single most worthwhile time to make the trip.

Believe us, we get it… There’s nothing that screams “credit card debt” like attending a music festival, but the coolest thing about CMA Fest is the fact that you can attend for FREE, with most major acts playing sets that are completely open to the public at no cost. The biggest question surrounding the decision to make the trip is simple: what makes CMA Fest worth all the planning, packing, and travel? The answer lies in its unmatched accessibility. There are a few other events where fans can see artists who typically command $100 to $300 ticket prices perform for free. In recent years alone, major acts like Megan Moroney, Ella Langley, Lainey Wilson, Tucker Wetmore, 49 Winchester, Dylan Marlowe, Conner Smith, and Bailey Zimmerman have performed at free, open-to-the-public shows throughout the festival.

These daytime lineups turn CMA Fest into something far more valuable than a typical music event, giving fans the chance to experience arena-level talent without arena-level costs. The sheer volume of free performances often delivers more entertainment value than the price of flights or accommodations, even before factoring in the festival’s many additional attractions and ticketed shows.

In many ways, despite drawing an estimated 95,000 fans last year, CMA Fest still feels like a hidden gem. Even some locals remain unaware of just how much the week has to offer. A quick search for “What is CMA Fest” rarely highlights the sheer number of free events, leading many potential attendees to assume the festival is nothing more than an expensive commitment rather than an unusually affordable weeklong celebration of country music. In 2023, there was nowhere else to be than the free Chevy Riverfront Stage when Lainey Wilson performed “Heart Like A Truck,” just after it had hit number one on the Mediabase Country Radio chart, a moment that captured the spirit of the festival perfectly. Throughout the week, you are just as likely to stumble upon a live performance outside a venue as you are to hear those same songs on the radio or your favorite playlist. For country music fans, few experiences match the energy of CMA Fest, and few events offer as many unexpected opportunities packed into a single week.

In 2026, CMA Fest will take place from June 4th-7th, adding to the 53-year tradition that has brought fans from across the globe to connect and celebrate music together. With this year’s lineup including A-list acts like Bailey Zimmerman, Cody Johnson, Ella Langley, Tim McGraw, and Blake Shelton, it’s easy to see there’s no better time to visit.  With such a large list of artists, venues, and events, it can be slightly overwhelming to navigate ahead of time if you’ve never attended, but fear not, we have you covered. As far as location goes, all events center on the general area around Broadway, giving fans countless opportunities to check out popular bars and even the Country Music Hall of Fame, which is just a short walk away.  Across the Bridge sits the Nissan Stadium, where the end-of-day shows take place. Passes to the nightly Nissan Stadium shows will be the main event that WILL require paid tickets for entry, along with a few others, often held at nearby amphitheaters and other venues.

As far as free events go, the biggest and best acts will usually be found at the following stages:

  • Chevy RiverFront Stage
  • Dr. Pepper Amp Stage
  • Chevy Vibes Stage
  • Good Molecules Reverb Stage

Tickets requiring Stadium pass or Fan Fair X Tickets:

  • Nissan Stadium & Platform Stages (Stadium Pass)
  • CMA Close Up Stage
  • CMA Spotlight Stage (Stadium pass of Fan Fair X Ticket)

Throughout the week, you’ll also find many of your favorite brands, vendors, and companies camping out at various locations. With the Festival’s many partners, you’ll be sure to find free snacks, refreshments, and other goodies as you walk around.  Some of the most popular stops are the many Dr. Pepper and Celsius stations, where you can enjoy free drinks on your way to whatever your daily plans entail.

When it comes to actually getting to CMA Fest from wherever you choose to stay, there are a few things to know.  Nashville, as it continues to grow and fill up, is not the easiest place to find good parking, especially downtown.  If you plan on using a paid lot or garage, one of the closest and most convenient is

the garage above Fifth+Broadway (https://fifthandb.com/pages/parking), which holds 778 parking spaces within its facility. However, if you don’t want to spend over $40 for all-day parking, rideshare apps are your best option(especially if you plan to partake in the many alcoholic products you will find being offered around each event). More info about transportation can be found here. https://cmafest.com/transportation/

While more exciting details are still to be announced, there’s no doubt that in early June, CMA Fest is the place to be, combining the music you love with the trip you’ve always dreamed of taking. Designed to satisfy fans of all kinds, you’ll see both mainstream and underground acts perform on a variety of stages, creating the ultimate experience that can’t be found anywhere else.
