The month of August saw some superstar artists make their much-anticipated returns to the spotlight, as well as a few new faces begin to make their mark on the industry.
Oklahoman sensations Zach Bryan and the Turnpike Troubadours each put out new albums. Turnpike returned after a hiatus resulting in their first release in six years. Although a ten track record was a little disappointing, it still satisfied many eager fans who’d waited over six years for the return of Evan Felker and his master class songwriting.
On the same night, Zach Bryan released his self titled album, with features from, The War and Treaty, Sierra Farrell, Kacey Musgraves, and The Lumineers. To no one’s surprise, the album was an immediate hit, specifically with his collaboration with Kacey Musgraves, ‘I Remember Everything,’ debuting at #1 on the US Spotify Charts. In addition, the LP went #1 on Apple’s All-Genre chart upon its release. Following the album release, Bryan announced his ‘Quittin Time’ tour for 2024 spanning across various arenas and stadiums in Canada and the United States.
Many albums were also announced with singles following the announcement immediately. Appalachian breakout star Charles Wesley Godwin announced his first album on Big Loud Records and signed a global publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music. Godwin followed it up with a sample EP releasing three songs all produced by bandmate Al Torrence.
One of the newest faces to burst onto the scene is Oliver Anthony. His song ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ blew up on youtube overnight as it amassed nearly 50 million views at the end of the month. Anthony took the short-lived throne from Jason Aldean’s ‘Try That In A Small Town’ as he debuted at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Since the wild success, Anthony has released other songs on his own Youtube channel, put out various personal update videos and gone on “The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast” to discuss his success and the commentary it’s received.
